That's Over With

I'm just glad that nonsense is over with. But at least I wasn't alone. Almost everybody I saw came out of there saying "Oh Gawd, I did horrible!"

So I don't feel quite so bad about it.

I only really know one person who seemed comfortable with how his interview went and I knew he was going to ace it.

So I'm guessing I know at least one of our new supervisors.

I'm going to relax now and go back to being one of the front line grunts and forget all about moving up into posher quarters in officers country. At least down here I know what I am doing and it doesn't take any special training to keep doing the same thing.

And I guess that's all I have to say about that.

Tuesday is going to be National Gazpacho Day and Mitten Tree Day, as well as Pawnbrokers Day, Miners Day, as well as the day of St Nicholas, who later became Santa Claus.

  1. I don't know if this will make you feel any different, but over the years, when listening to folks express disappointment in how they did on a test, interview, exam of some sort, I was always intrigued at how many of them did well, even awesome - and how surprised they were with the outcome.

It's a funny thing sometimes, how we see ourselves in certain situations, where others see us completely different.

So...until the actual decision is made by the interviewer(s) you are still in the running no matter what you think about how you did.

In the meantime, go back to doing what you do, at work, at home, here in Bloggersville and wherever else you do what you do - and relax...the worst is over!

    Okay...that's my nickels worth!

  2. But you don't have your result yet? You are just psyching yourself up to a negative outcome?

I have a vague sense that the verdict will be just, whichever way it goes. If you are promoted, you'll fill the new role, and perhaps in your unique way redefine its possibilities. Before you, there was never a Sgt Rev, who thought like you thought, took innovative actions like yours, etc.

If the board decide not to promote you, I can see the possibility that they value you most as the maverick officer (non-sergeant, whatever you are now) whose sunny personality would be at this stage in his career clouded over by the burdens of the new role.

A poor consolation, I know, which does not take account of $$$, status, esteem etc. But you are not as other prison officers. You are an artist, a chronicler, an inhabitant of two worlds. Or should I say three. Every prison officer (that's what we call them here in UK) must obviously live in two worlds - in jail and out. But then there are creative worlds of the spirit, which you populate not just for your own self but also allow colleagues to dip into, when they read your blog.

Do they--your colleagues--all know about your blog? Including the interview board?

Sometimes I cherish the thought that you make up the entire blog, not just the names, but the incidents too. Even the job.

  3. Here's hoping the outcome of the interview is the one which works the best for you.

  4. Did you pee you pants during the interview? If not, then that's a win in my book.

  5. I told Sgt Archer if I was on the board the answer to all my questions would be to ask 14-65 hahaha. I am sure you did fine. I bet.

  6. Nerves shot. Tension extreme. Anticipation high. I think there will be surprises in store for all of us. I also think that several people did a lot better than they think.

  8. Jenny- If they promote me based on that interview, I will be really surprised. I'm going back to what I was doing before all this nonsense started.

Vincent- The captain running the board is a stickler for the dotted I's and crossed T's. It will all be by the book if it takes him weeks. If I make it, I'll be me in a different shirt is all. If I don't make it... Well, I already have the shirts for that role, so I'm good. Most people at work know about the blog and maybe even some of the board members, I don't know. Would it influence them? I don't know. I'd like to think they would view me as someone who can be creative and intelligent. But they may just view me as a wise butt.

And sometimes I wish I was just making some of this stuff up. It would be easier on my mind.

JPT- You always know the right thing to say!

Doug- I'll count it as a win, then. I stayed dry.

TJ- You doofus! Remember, you're up next!

Watcher- 1 chance in 5, right? Gotta look on the bright side.

Chanel- I know a few people who would cover that bet. Me? Even money. No bet.

  9. Keep the faith Rev. You're awfully hard on yourself. But I've been accused of the same thing.
